With its use of flavour-packed spices and dried herbs, this herby homemade BBQ chicken rub is just the blend for adding super flavours and mouthwatering aromas to your chicken or turkey. It's super easy to do and can be made from scratch in only a few minutes! (See the bottom of the page for links to more of my recipes)
What You'll Need: (makes about 7-8 tablespoons)
3 tbsp Hungarian paprika (or regular)
3 tbsp dried rosemary
2 tbsp dried sage
2 tbsp dried basil
1 tbsp brown sugar
1 tbsp onion powder
1 tbsp garlic powder
4 tsp black peppercorns
2 tsp sea salt
2 tsp chili powder
tbsp = tablespoon
tsp = teaspoon
Directions:
Store your barbecue chicken rub in an airtight jar out of direct sunlight. Use within 3 months.
Note 2: You could use any salt for this recipe, however, I do recommend using a good quality salt: sea/rock/kosher/flakes etc as these are a bit less processed and I think add better flavours to your seasonings and this is transferred to your home cooking. If however you only have regular table salt available it's fine to use that, you'll still get a fab tasting powder.
Ingredient Note: For this BBQ chicken rub I use whole peppercorns but if you don't have these available, it's fine to just use ground black pepper. If you do, just cut the amounts you use by half. So 4 teaspoons of peppercorns equals 2 teaspoons of pre-ground pepper which you stir in with any other powders when making.
