If you're into making meaty fajitas, then a homemade beef fajita seasoning recipe is just the thing! A spicy mix of ingredients, it's quick and easy to make and will add far more flavours and aromas than any commercial mix that you can buy. (See the bottom of the page for links to more of my recipes)
Note: If you have them, use as many whole ingredients as possible as they'll add the best flavours. If you don't have all (or some) of them, you can use pre-ground powders and reduce the amount the recipe requires by half. For example, for 2 tablespoons of whole cumin you would use 1 tablespoon of pre-ground cumin. Reduce any others you don't have whole by half as well and stir in with any other powders when making.
What You'll Need: (makes about 9-10 tablespoons)
3 tbsp paprika powder
2 tbsp cumin seeds
2 tbsp dried thyme
2 tbsp black peppercorns
1 tbsp dried tarragon
1 tbsp mustard powder
4 tsp dried oregano
2 tsp chili powder
2 tsp onion powder
2 tsp garlic powder
2 tsp sea salt
1 tsp cloves
tbsp = tablespoon
tsp = teaspoon
#Directions:
Store your fajita seasoning in an airtight jar out of direct sunlight. Use within 3 months before making a fresh amount.
Note: For even more flavours and aromas, dry toasting the cumin, peppercorns and cloves before cooling, grinding and combining is well worth doing. Read more about this highly recommended cooking technique. (Link opens in new window)
