Fajita Spice Mix - A, Versatile Flavour Packed
Seasoning For All Your Tex-Mex Dishes

If you enjoy making fajitas, then a homemade fajita spice mix is just the ticket! This easy to make blend of spices and herbs is super versatile and will season, flavour and add mouthwatering aromas to all your Tex-Mex style cooking. Beef, chicken and pork are meats you could use this for. (See the bottom of the page for links to more of my recipes)

Note: If you can, try and use a few whole ingredients as these will add the best aromas and flavours. If you don't have them whole simply use pre-ground powders and reduce the quantities the recipe requires by half. So for 2 tablespoons of whole coriander seeds you would use 1 tablespoon of pre-ground coriander. Reduce any others you don't have whole by half as well and stir in with the other powders when making.

Homemade Fajita Spice Mix Recipe

What You'll Need: (makes about 7-8 tablespoons)

2 tbsp paprika powder
2 tbsp coriander seeds (cilantro)
2 tbsp dried rosemary
1 tbsp cayenne pepper
1 tbsp garlic powder
4 tsp dried sage
4 tsp black peppercorns
2 tsp mustard powder
2 tsp cumin seeds
2 tsp onion powder
2 tsp sea salt
1 tsp grated nutmeg

tbsp = tablespoon
tsp = teaspoon

Directions:

  • Grind the coriander, cumin, salt, rosemary and peppercorns
  • Add to a bowl
  • Stir in the paprika, grated nutmeg, cayenne, onion, mustard and garlic powders
  • Finally, crumble in the sage. Combine thoroughly

Store your fajita seasoning in an airtight jar, in a cool place and out of direct sunlight. Use within 3 months before making more.

Note: For even more flavour, dry toasting the cumin, peppercorns and coriander before grinding and mixing with the other ingredients is worth doing. Read more about this easy to do cooking technique. (Link opens in new window)
