Why You Should Make Your Own Sage Tea Recipe

The Latin name for sage is "salvia officinalis" and salvia is derived from the Latin salvere (to save), referring to the healing properties. And this pungent herb has been recommended at one time or another for virtually every ailment by traditional medicine.

Of course it's convenient to pop to the store and pick up a commercial herbal teabag; but after learning how to make sage tea here's some of the reasons why you should add this beverage to your diet...

  • Modern research shows possible uses as an antiseptic and antifungal
  • It's an excellent source of vitamin K (phylloquinone) which is a lesser known vitamin essential for blood coagulation. A vitamin K deficiency may lead to weakened bones, which in the worst cases can be a cause of osteoporosis
  • Its strong antiseptic properties makes sage tea a good infusion for sore throats, infected gums and mouth ulcers
  • The strongest active constituents of this herb are within its essential oil, which contains cineole, borneol, and thujone
  • Sage leaf contains tannic acid, oleic acid, ursonic acid
  • No added extras, e.g artificial colours, additives or preservatives which are sometimes used in store-bought beverages

Note: Pregnant women are advised not to take sage internally. If you're unsure do check with your doctor beforehand.
